小河的岸边有一大片草地，小动物们最喜欢这里了。看，小鸡正忙着在草地上捉虫子呢。小河里，小鹅在学习游泳，小鸭在捉鱼，小鹈鹕玩水玩得正高兴呢。
这个时候，鹈鹕妈妈飞来了，只见她的嘴巴鼓鼓的，原来她捞了满满一嘴巴的鱼来喂小鹈鹕了。小鹈鹕看见有吃的，可高兴了，一头扎进妈妈的大嘴巴里，“吧唧吧唧”吃起来。
小动物们觉得小鹈鹕扎进妈妈嘴巴里吃东西的样子实在是太好笑了，都忍不住哈哈大笑起来。
“大嘴巴，鹈鹕妈妈大嘴巴！”小动物们都在取笑鹈鹕妈妈呢！
小鹈鹕听了，觉得有点不好意思，不愿意再吃了，聪明的鹈鹕妈妈一下子就明白了。
她对小鹈鹕说：“孩子，快吃！等你吃饱了，妈妈会让你看看大嘴巴的用处。”
听着妈妈温柔的话语，小鹈鹕又继续吃起来。鹈鹕妈妈耐心地等小鹈鹕吃完，然后用大嘴巴兜起他，张开翅膀飞了起来。
鹈鹕妈妈带着小鹈鹕在空中转了一圈，缓缓降落在河面上。小鹈鹕从妈妈嘴里跳出来，高高兴兴地在河里游泳。
“哇，小鹈鹕坐飞机了！”小鸭和小鹅羡慕极了。
鹈鹕妈妈张开嘴巴，让小鸭小鹅也进来。“呼呼”，鹈鹕妈妈起飞了，小动物们兴奋极了。
岸边的小鸡看见了，急得大叫起来：“鹈鹕妈妈，快把我也带上去呀。”鹈鹕妈妈飞到河岸边，张开大嘴巴，小鸡也坐了进去。
鹈鹕妈妈降落在小河上，变成了一艘大轮船。从来没到河面上玩过的小鸡兴奋极了。她和小鸭、小鹅、小鹈鹕一起打水仗，别提有多快活了！
这时，鹈鹕妈妈深深地吸了一口气，她要干什么呢？呀，她合上大嘴巴，一头扎进了水里。
哇，鹈鹕妈妈又变成了潜水艇。潜水艇里黑乎乎的，小动物们还有点儿害怕呢！很快，潜水艇又变回了大飞机，带着小动物们飞回了小河边。
小动物们羡慕地对小鹈鹕说：“你的妈妈真了不起！”小鹈鹕听了，真为有这样一个妈妈感到自豪啊！
“妈妈，妈妈，您一定累了，休息一下吧。”小鹈鹕跑到妈妈跟前说，他还捕了一条小鱼送给妈妈呢！
