《A Tale of Two Cities》读后感(一)：小说的根很深
开篇的精彩只是冰山一角，整部书就像一朵绚丽的花，只是这花开在庞大的根系之上。感觉作者的内功极其深厚，在读Great Expectations没有这种感觉，但确实被这本书震撼到了。Carton这个角色藏的很深，读到最后发现他才是真正的主角，那最后一抹淡然的微笑和安静的神情，好似神灵附体，给人以无尽的震撼。
《A Tale of Two Cities》读后感(二)：sacrifice is great
He who was always an unimportant guy in the society made a fatal decision that he will replace Lucy’s husband to go to the guillotine. It is this sacrifice that made him from nobody to a great man. He loves Lucy but he choose to be a virtuous man.

情深是一种悲剧，必以生死相许。
此书太阴郁高贵，心智不太成熟的小朋友不适合读，哭死。
Dickens真的是一个超级会讲故事的大师。对人性观察之透彻，对社会战争思考之深刻，越发使他惜字如金。爱情，复仇，战争，三个独立的线索交织在一起，情节玄妙复杂，结构精巧完整。
主角Carton懒散，放荡，酗酒…唯一的优点就是帅…哎
是不是每个浪子都有一个善良高贵的灵魂，和一颗感情深厚的心吖？
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…蓦然回首，伊人却在灯火阑珊处。
恍然大悟。
《A Tale of Two Cities》读后感(四)：狄更斯的革命观？
以前看过中文版的，那时候被故事的爱恨情仇吸引，对故事背景没怎么注意，太遥远。
再看了英文版，依然被CARTON感动得泪目，平静下来之后又想了些旁的。
以前的印象中，单纯觉得是贵族对平明的残酷压迫，所以人民的革命是光辉正义的。虽然也感到Madame Defarge有点过分了，但想到她一家惨死，这种仇恨的心情也是正常的。
这次再读原著，发现书中虽然描写了贵族的冷酷，但是更多的笔墨刻画革命者的凶残。
（人性真是相似啊。那个马车撞孩子致死的场景，我们今天也在新闻中看到类似的事吧。还有Defarge家的悲剧告诉我们外国的地主恶少一样强抢民女啊。）
虽然疯狂极端的爱国者们完全是可以想象的，应该说一定是有的，但是本书极端的革命者不只是Madame Defarge一个人，从书里看，但凡革命者，不管是路人甲还是打酱油的一个比一个疯狂，凶残，冷酷。通过很多细节描写表现出来。 于是给我一个印象是作者想说革命者比贵族更可恶。所以疑问就是：狄更斯到底怎么想的？
狄更斯是英国人，他能从法国人的角度写法国人的革命吗？好比一个日本人以文革为背景写了本叫《北京与东京》的爱情故事，那历史观会怎样？
英国相比之下是没怎么经过革命的，不像法国一会革命了，一会又要复辟，一会又革命……英国皇室至今也非常活跃和受到拥戴。我估计经历过革命的国家的人有多不理解英国，英国人就有多不理解为什么一定要革命。
我看我还是重点看爱情吧。。。
另，喜欢在书里搞点宗教色彩是不是也是英国特色？CARTON赴死的时候有圣经做背景（最后一章超级有镜头感！），这虽然完全没有什么违和的，但一定要这样吗？
《纳尼亚》是英国的，狮子死了又复活了。
哈利波特赴死也复活了。
还好双城记是现实主义，要不估计CARTON也得复活。

The following from Wikipedia amply summarises the main plot:
The novel depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution, the corresponding brutality demonstrated by the revolutionaries toward the former aristocrats in the early years of the revolution, and many unflattering social parallels with life in London during the same time period. It follows the lives of several protagonists through these events. The most notable are Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. Darnay is a French once-aristocrat who falls victim to the indiscriminate wrath of the revolution despite his virtuous nature, and Carton is a dissipated British barrister who endeavours to redeem his ill-spent life out of his unrequited love for Darnay's wife, Lucie Manette.
Jason commented that the upper class should reach out to the lower class with respect. A society must be able to bridge the gap between classes. Jim commented that whoever in power, there is always injustice; only love is lasting and will be triumphant in the end. Our discussion then centred on love: is love conditional or unconditional？ What do you think of the subject？
