  《Knowing God》

  《Knowing God》

  《Knowing God》

  From current Christian publications you might think that the most vital issue for any real

  or would-be Christian in the world today is church union, or social witness, or dialogue with other Christians and other faiths, or refuting this or that -ism, or developing a Christian philosophy and culture, or what have you. But our line of study makes the present-day concentration on these things look like a gigantic conspiracy of misdirection. Of course, it is not that; the issues themselves are real and must be dealt with in their place. But it is

  tragic that, in paying attention to them, so many in our day seem to have been distracted from what was, is, and always will be the true priority for every human being – that is, learning to know God in Christ.

With this in mind, Packer discusses why it is important to know who God is, what He is like, and God's relationship with and actions towards man. Packer discusses and explains the important doctrinal concepts of propitiation, regeneration, justification, and adoption -- doctrines of Christianity that set it apart from all other religions and belief systems.

Two trends seem to have produced this state:

1. Christian minds have been confirmed to the modern spirit.

2. Christians minds have been confused by the modern skepticism(怀疑主义).

* Chapter 1 The Study of God

* What is my ultimate aim and object in occupying my mind with these things? What do I intend to do with my knowledge about God? Be cautious about became proud and conceited.

* Chapter 2 The people who know their God

* Do we desire such knowledge of God? Two things follow:

* We must recognize how much we lack knowledge of God.

* We must seek the Saviour.

* Chapter 3 Knowing and Being Known

* Problem: to think you know God when you are not.

* Why a simple Bible reader and sermon hearer may have more deeper relationship with God than a learned scholar who pursue theologically correct? 问题出现在哪?行为实践要落地.

* Chapter 4 The only True God

* Image dishonor God, for they obscure his glory. 教堂里的耶稣受难雕塑/类似画作是否没有把耶稣升天复活之荣耀其神性一面表现出来?Packer的观点在于别敬拜worship created staff.

* Images mislead us.

* Chapter 5 God Incarnate

* 作者反对Kenosis Theory,大意是耶稣基督道成肉身后失去了全部或部分神性. The idea behind it in all its forms is that, in order to be fully human, the Son had to renounce some of its divine qualities, otherwise he could not have shared the experience of being limited in space, time, knowledge, and consciousness which is essential to truly human life.

* Chapter 6 He Shall Testify

* Do we honor the Holy Spirit by recognizing and relying on his work? Or do we slight him by ignoring it, and thereby dishonor, not merely the Spirit, but the Lord who sent him?

* Chapter 7 God unchanging

* 当读圣经是我们感觉枯燥无味时该怎么办?

* Remember God does not change.

* God’s character(品格) does not change.

* God’s way do not change.

* God’s purpose do not change. (Repenting means revising one’s judgement, and changing one’s plan of action, God never does this)

* God’s son does not change.

* Chapter 8 The Majesty of God

* God is greater than world’s great man. (Alexander, Napoleon, Mao Tse-tung).

* 当我们试着去与人比较的时候,多思考上帝吧,他是多么的为他超乎我们的想象,超越我们所能理解的范围. 而在神眼里,无一人义人.

* Chapter 9 God Only Wise

* Painful humbling

* Sustained hardship to teach lessons

* Chapter 10 God’s wisdom and ours

* 智慧有别于知识储备。The young man was inclined to equate wisdom with wide knowldege, and to suppose that one gains wisdom simply by assiduous bookwork.

* Chapter 11 Thy Word is Truth

* True Christians are people who believe the teaching, trusting the promises, following the commands.

* Chapter 12 The Love of God

* 圣灵做工. Spirit’s ordinary work of giving peace, joy, hope, and love, through the shedding abroad in our hearts of knowledge of the love of God.

* Chapter 13 The Grace of God

* 对于戴耳卡内基的出书进行了批判,认为赐畅销书所推崇的价值观与圣经不符,及人有能力迎合取悦神.

* Chapter 14 God the Judge

* Divine Judgement对现世的思考及影响?求主开恩带路.

* Chapter 15 The Wrath of God

* 读经理解

* Chaoter 16 Goodness and Severity

* Think about natural blessings God has given us, land, food, air, water, relationship, love, strength. (Calvary is the measure of goodness of God.)

* Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

* Chapter 17 The Jealous God

* Biblical statements about’s God’s jealousy are anthropomorphisms(拟人化/n.神人同形同性论).

* Chapter 18 The Heart of Gospel

* The deepest problem is the relation with our maker.

* Chapter 19 Sons of God

* The Holy Spirit enables us to ascertain our sons hip, from being conscious of, and discovering in ourselves, the true marks of a renewed state.

* I am a child of God. God is my Father; heaven is my home; everyday is one day nearer. My Savior is nearer; every Christian is my brother too.

* Chapter 20 Thou Our Guide

* 圣灵带领并非帮我们做选择A或B,而是帮助我们回到圣经回到神的话语里去.

* Chapter 21 These Inward Trials

* 2 errors:think Christian life is too good or think Christian life is too harsh, find the balance.

* Losing the sight of Grace, it confuses the Christian life on earth with the Christian life as it will be in heaven.

* Chapter 22 The Adequacy of God

* Problem Packer mentioned:

* Afraid of the consequences of going the whole way into the Christian life.

* We shrink from accepting burdens of responsibility for others.

* Afraid of forfeit material security.

* Afraid of leaving comfortable circle we used to.
