The closerone gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his truereason for being, thought the boy.

It is not about the style and language, since this is an English translation.
Like The Little Prince(this is one of my favorite books), this is a tiny book,
however, it is powerful and inspiring. More often than not, a little story can
convey profound implications. This is the case.

It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.
When you know of your destiny, what would you do？ This parable begins with a recurrent dream of the shepherd. Although the shepherd obtained his education in seminary, instead of becoming a priest, he chose to be a shepherd, for the simple reason that he loves traveling. After being two years' shepherd, he had his own flock and he so well knew his flock that he could tell the difference from one another. When the Gypsy woman interpreted his dream, he did not made up his mind. Then comes the King. He helped the Shepherd make the choice. And making decision is only the beginning of things.
All the sheep want is food and water.
The shepherd chose to pursue his destiny and search for his treasure. On the road, he was robbed and did not have any money to get him food and shelter in a strange land, where he met the merchant, who intrigues me most. The merchant run a shop to provide him with enough money to be on a pilgrimage to Mecca, which
is his dream. Even with plenty of money, however, he did not attempt the journey, because the thought of Mecca kept him alive and deal with the mundane life. He feared that after the realization of his dream, he would have no reason to live. He was so used to the way things were that he
did not know how to deal with change.

《The Alchemist》读后感(四)：Unexpected Pleasure
在房间闷的不行，游荡到学校，走到学校的地下小书店，有为数不多的英文小说堆在那里。其实没有非买它不可的理由，毕竟花掉合好几十人民币的钱买一本小说似乎太不值得了。但是想了想还是买了，因为我很喜欢那种粗糙的纸张，轻轻的薄薄的一本，放在包里随手拿出来翻番的感觉。
回到住处也并不着急看，先看了看后面的reader guide，又看了看前面关于narcissus的故事，觉得并没有我想象的那么难懂，或许我应该对自己的英文有信心。
作者是西班牙人，我菜原版应该是西班牙文的吧，可惜我不懂西班牙文，就看英文的吧。或许正是因为是英文的吧，我才有耐心一个单词一个单词的读下去，如果是中文的，我可能就草草扫过了。
一向很讨厌类似与心灵鸡汤的书籍，认为教条。但是这本书里的道理却一点都不让人反感，它们出现在合适的章节用合适的词语表述，却依然带来让人震动的东西，我想这也许就是作者的高明之处吧。
作为一个没有明确宗教信仰的人，我很难接受上帝存在论这类的东西，有种怪力弄神的感觉。但是在这本书里，命运只是一个托词，本质却是在阐述我们自身的强大。
《The Alchemist》读后感(五)：没有讲真正的Alchemy，还是让人捡到了宝^^
这本书和"小王子"一样，故事当中想给你讲点什么。稍微Spiritual Book的的范畴。写得没有过于虚，一章章渗透着作者深厚的人生功底。
很不错的书，和"小王子"一样喜欢，和"The Power of Now"一样爱读。
非常喜欢The Boy在全文贯穿地讲着"The Universal Language"的那些段子，有所意会，有所感悟 :)
也很喜欢里面的Camel Driver, "When I'm eating, that's all I think about. If I'm on the march, I just concentrate on marching. If I have to fight, it will be just as good a day to die as any other."
当Englishman和The Boy别别扭扭旅行在一起时，the boy心想"Everyone has his or her own way of learning things. His way isn't the same as mine, nor mine as his. But we're both in search of our Personal Legends, and I respect him for that." 这段很是让人感悟，大字板地提醒着我：don't always get judgemental; don't think my way is the only way, the right way; respect those who are authentic and passionate as the way they are, as who they exactly are :)
总之，The Alchemist是读着每大段子都有一坨感悟的书。没有太多人生交集的读者，或者和作者讲的Universal Language不太universal的读者，也可以把它当作是笔锋还不错，情节还蛮神奇的故事书来读^.^
《The Alchemist》读后感(六)：Find your own legend with this book
I can't find the same cover of the one I read on kindle which bought from amazon.us but it doesn't matter it's just the same book.
After I read the English version I have found that the Chinese title is better than the English one according to the entire story, it's the story of the shepherd, and the alchemist is the guide who taught most of the important lessons to the shepherd.
After all, it was the fist novel that I read through the fist page to the end, not because of the interesting story with easy understanding words, but those life lessons that everyone one can take into practice when searching his or her mission to find their treasure in this life.
ome of those great sentences that really touched me were as flowing:
quot;When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
quot;Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him."
quot;Master the lessons we've learned as we've moved toward that dream"
quot;The darkest hour of the night came just before the dawn."
《The Alchemist》读后感(七)：A Classic Self-help Book
若从小说的角度去看这本书的话，它是非常一般的。没有什么伏线，没有什么小说的美感，没有文笔。从一开始，基本上就可以猜到结局会是怎么样：肯定是跨越重重考验，到达幸福彼岸。
作者也比较直白，把他想要告诉你的道理，都很直白地说出来了。而且为了让你相信他说的人生哲理的合理性，情节安排都相当有利于主人公Santiego，总是能化险为夷，总是能化腐朽为神奇，总是能领悟到人生的真谛，因为他是顺“道”而走的。要是你看过《遇上未知的自己》的话，这本是同一类型的书，《遇》是低级模仿版。
道理是合理的，都是New Age引申出来的关于灵修的事情。但是带着看小说的心态去看，未免觉得失望，一本很平庸的小说。若是以自救书的角度看，能看到很多你可能已知的道理。
《The Alchemist》读后感(八)：A crap
This "famous" book disappointed me and I regret for wasting my time.
The author had been trying so hard to tell a charming and inspiring story that the only thing he did seemed to be trying hard to teach. He put every "wisdom" on table - almost in every paragraph, he gave an advice about life, and in very explicit words. I hate such instructions.
There is no basic logic in writing. The love at first sight between two strangers in the desert sounded like a complete daydream, with passion came from nowhere. The silly sentence "when you really want something, the whole universe will be conspired to help you" is annoyingly in every chapter, cheating on illusions while making no sense. Ridiculously, the "personal legend" seemed to come up all of a sudden to the boy's mind; instructed by a Gypsy woman, it lacked basic human intelligence.
I would not recommend this book to anyone.

有些书在人生的不同阶段读会带来截然不同的阅读体验，比如今天要介绍的这本The Alchemist。初次读的时候并没有多大感觉，认为无非就是一本让人追求梦想的励志书，而且作为小说，它的情节也不是特别引人入胜，甚至还为里面一些神乎其神的描述而感到有些莫名其妙。私下觉得作为一本世界名著，此书有些名不副实。
但是最近几年拿出来重读，却读出了它字里行间的许多涵义，读懂了很多的象征和隐喻，里面的好多句子会在我心中闪闪发光，不由得对它赞赏不已。每次为生活中的一些事感到泄气或郁闷的时候，我都会读一读这本书，领会到一些不同的涵义并深受鼓舞。
本书最初发表于1988年，用葡萄牙文写成，原名为 O Alquimista。1993年被翻译成英文 The Alchemist: A Fable About Following Your Dream（《炼金术士：一个有关追随你的梦想的寓言》）。中文简体和繁体译本名字均为《牧羊少年奇幻之旅》(或《炼金术士》)。
故事很简短，一个叫Santiago的西班牙牧羊少年，他反复做一个梦，这个梦告诉他，在埃及的金字塔附近能找到宝藏。于是他卖掉羊群，一路向南踏上了寻求宝藏的旅程。他跨过海峡，穿过茫茫的沙漠，一路历经了千辛万苦和众多考验。在遇到的很多人和事的指引下，他跟从预兆，逐渐发现了自己的天命，学习到真正地爱是什么，领悟到真正的炼金术究竟为何物，最终以意想不到的方式找到了自己的宝藏。
这个故事并不是特别复杂,语言非常质朴，但言浅意深。 月光、羊群、破教堂、酒吧、集市、水晶店、自由的风、漫漫狂沙、骆驼商队、绿洲、美丽的少女……这些勾勒出神秘而美丽的异国情调，让读者如临其境，仿佛一同跟着少年在进行着一个奇幻的旅程，让合口味的人读得欲罢不能。
本书的作者是巴西超级畅销书作家Paulo Coelho (保罗·柯艾略)，如今媒体对他的赞誉已经到了一个无以加复的地步，这里就不再重复。让我对他好生佩服的是其传奇版的人生经历, 以及坚持要实现自己的梦想，活出天命的那一份坚持和努力。这些让人想到屈原的那句“亦余心之所向兮，虽九死其犹未悔”。
出生于里约热内卢的中产家庭，Coelho从小就想当个作家。可是父母认为写作不能谋生，是误入歧途，像他父亲那样当个工程师或是律师方为正途。因为不服从父母的安排，在16岁到20岁期间，他3次被一心想拯救他的父母送进精神病院，并接受电击治疗。终于他接受了父母的安排，但是仅读了一年法学院，就退学做了个四处流浪的嬉皮士。期间做过各色职业，后来为流行歌曲写词收入颇丰。39岁那年，在一次朝圣中，他有了顿悟，这成为他生命的转折点。他放弃了原先高收入的职业，开始全职写作。
在一个访问中他坦言，所有的著作都是根据自己的人生经历写成的，只不过他用了隐喻和象征性的语言(a metaphorical and symbolic language)。所以这本书中的少年其实也是作者本身的一个化身，而少年Santiago的寻宝旅程，其实也是Coelho探索天命，实现梦想的生命历程的一个寓言化表达。
除了The Alchemist, Coelho还写了多部小说，而且神奇的是本本在全球畅销。他用简短的一句话概况了贯彻这些书籍的个人哲学：
“活出你个人的传奇，为梦想付出代价，读懂预兆，唤醒你阴性的一面，敢于与众不同。
live your Personal Legend, pay the price of your dreams, read the omens, awaken your feminine side, and dare to be different.”
(小英问：不知道对于女性来说，是否是唤醒自己阳性的一面masculine side？)
以下为最深得我心的10个理念。
1. 而当你真心渴望某样东西时，整个宇宙都会联合起来帮助你完成
“ 因为这是这个星球上最伟大的真理；不管你是谁，也不论那是什么，只要你真心渴望一样东西，就放手去做，因为渴望是源自于天地之心；因为那就是你来到这世间的任务。……完成自己的天命，是每个人一生唯一的职责。万物都有为一。而当你真心渴望某样东西时，整个宇宙都会联合起来帮助你完成。
There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it’s because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth… To realize one’s Personal Legend is a person’s only real obligation. All things are one. And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
这是整本书的精华和核心理念，在书里反复出现。一般都是在Santiago面临困境，犹豫着要放弃的时候出现。这句话会提醒少年要坚持继续前行，去找到宝藏。这句话最初出自他在广场遇到的智慧老人之口，在旅程快结束的时候，带领他达到金字塔的练金术士又覆诵了一遍。
值得注意的是，这股渴望并不是那种为了要向别人证明自己，出人头地，或是其他人告诉你应该去做的。而是来自内心深处一种深深的渴望，是那种即使没有人付你钱，即使你有了很多钱，还是每天想要去做的事。仿佛有一股更大的力量要通过你来表达和展现它的神奇和魔力。
文中的老人告诉Santiago哪怕他的渴望只是旅行或是寻宝，甚至是娶一位商人的女儿，都是可以的。
这让我想起前段时间，朋友推荐看的法国杂技名人Philippe Petit 的TED演讲 "跨钢丝的旅程The journey across the high wire” ，以及相关的记录片《走钢丝的人 Man on Wire》。 Philippe Petit喜欢走钢丝，经过近六年半的练习和准备，在伙伴的帮助下，冲破层层关卡，成功地在450米高的双子塔间走钢丝，让人目瞪口呆。
看完在震惊和感动之余，我不禁问：“这样做到底有什么意义？”表面上看来，他只带来了大楼管理的不便，或是引起街道人群的混乱。也许如一个网友的留言，如果他能够把这份精力用在其他事情上，也许对这个世界的益处会更大。后来我明白了，走钢丝，并且把这个走到极致，这就是Philippe Petit深深的渴望，它展示了人类所具有的勇气、专注、坚持、身体平衡力、力量，以及本书的理念“当你真心渴望某样东西时，整个宇宙都会联合起来帮助你完成”。这触动了无数人内心深处自身固有的渴望，让人忍不住要为之鼓掌，为之落泪。
这种深深的渴望就是书中老人所提到的天命(destiny):
“那就是你一直想去做的事。
It’s what you have always wanted to accomplish.”
当我们真的遵循天命的时候，就会有书中少年所提到的这种感觉：

所以如歌德所言：
“无论你能做什么，或者梦想自己能做什么，开始去做吧。胆识本身带有天赋、力量和神奇。现在就开始去做。
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.”
让我们问问自己：“我深深渴望，一直想做的事是什么？”
对于我来说，现阶段的深层渴望和冲动，就是要分享108本自己看过的觉得很受益的英文心灵书籍笔记。我感到看过一遍与结合自己的体会写一篇笔记，感觉非常不同。尽管有时候，我还是会“完美主义”发作，一本书的笔记只写一段不满意，然后就放弃换另一本书，如此跳来跳去的，当真有些懊恼。但是从整体的角度来说，这个过程我还是蛮享受的。就像牧羊少年一开始只是想旅行并不知道有宝藏，我也不知道这种分享会把我带到哪里去。但是，不管三七二十一，先做了再说。
