  《Othello》读后感(一):一个在现实中反复上演的悲剧

  这本奥赛罗看得我心碎,太有震撼力了。这样的故事,其实每天都在上演。我们真的往往太信任外人,反而怀疑亲人,甚至施加报复。难怪白娘子要如此说许仙: “哪个仇,那个亲,哪个对你自家亲,谁人对你是真心。你违天违地违良心...”

  但转念一想,这种胸怀和眼界其实不仅是男人需要拥有的,女人也应该具备。我们不能成为“现实版”奥斯罗悲剧受害者,更不能制造“中国式离婚”这样的下场。梁思成,布吕尼的老爸阿布贝托都是很好的榜样——即使是结婚了,我们依旧是自由的。

  《Othello》读后感(二):为什么奥赛罗非得是黑人不可?

  读《奥赛罗》需要问一个必要的问题:为什么奥赛罗非得是黑人不可?

  首先是奥赛罗所代表的身份。剧中几乎所有人都以“the Moor”来称呼他,毫无疑问是在用一种种族标签来孤立他,将他隔离为一个社会的边缘人。奥赛罗虽然战功赫赫且在前半部分一直以英雄形象示人,但他的处境仍然是孤独的,他依然是一个局外人,一个无法融入白人社会的黑人。他的黑皮肤被视为丑恶的象征,当Brabantio找到奥赛罗对峙时,他说道:

  For I refer me to all things of sense,

  If she in chains of magic were were not bound,

  Whether a maid so tender, fair and happy,

  o opposite to marriage that she shunned

  The wealthy curled darlings of our nation,

  Would even have, to incur a general mock,

  Run from her guardage to the sooty bosom

  Of such a thing as thou, to fear, not to delight.

  而面对这样的公然侮辱,奥赛罗甚至无法反驳,因为连他自己也为自己的肤色羞愧。当他说自己要向大家坦白苔丝迪梦娜与他相爱的故事时,他说:

  I do confess the vices of my blood

  也就是说,从一开始“黑人身份”就是奥赛罗的软肋,别人因此看不起他,他也自觉低人一等,这也为后来奥赛罗被伊阿古的谗言所迷惑,在嫉妒之中犯下大错做好了铺垫。说到底,奥赛罗为什么那么轻易就会上当呢?难道他真的那么愚蠢,那么目光短浅吗?当然不是。奥赛罗之所以会听信伊阿古的话,不过是因为他自己心里也认同其他人的看法,认为自己是丑恶的,配不上美丽温柔且出身高贵的苔丝迪梦娜,所以当别人告诉他苔丝迪梦娜背叛了他时,他很快就相信了,而且正是因为这种隐藏在高傲的外表下的自卑感,他的嫉妒和愤怒也比别人来得更加猛烈。

  另一方面,奥赛罗又不仅仅只是一个独立的人物,他的黑人身份也不仅仅服务于剧情。从一开始,奥赛罗就被众人和巫术(witchcraft)、魔法(magic)等等联系在一起(见第一段引文),且这种联系一直贯穿整个文本,这显然是因为他的种族在当时的西方人看来是十分神秘且时常令人恐惧的。人们在面对未知的事物时常会把这一事物妖魔化,而奥赛罗无疑正是遭到了这样的对待。并且,欧洲悠久的基督教传统排斥所有的异教文化,而奥赛罗作为一个摩尔人,明显代表了一种入侵的、原始的异教力量。这种对文化和宗教的强调在苔丝迪梦娜身上也得到了体现。和奥赛罗始终与异教巫术联系在一起一样,苔丝迪梦娜也始终和基督教道德联系在一起。当奥赛罗羞辱她为strumpet时(Act IV, Scene II),苔丝迪梦娜自称为christian,并宣称正是因为基督教的道德她才绝不会做出淫邪之事:

  OTHE. What, not a whore?

  DESDE. No, as I shall be saved.

  这样看来,奥赛罗和苔丝迪梦娜便分别代表了两种文化,即入侵的异教和遭受威胁的基督教道德。这种视角非常有意思,以后还可以多做点研究。

  我曾经说,莎士比亚的悲剧主角都有一个共同点,那就是脆弱。这种脆弱表现在方方面面,但归根结底都是相通的。他们表面上高贵又强大,但实际上却极易动摇和怀疑,常常因此而铸下不可挽回的后果。福柯在《疯癫与文明》中对此有过总结:

  “在莎士比亚的作品中,疯癫总是与死亡和谋杀为伍……在莎士比亚和塞万提斯的作品中,疯癫依然占据着一种极端的、孤立无援的位置。任何东西都不能使它回归真理或理性。它只能导致痛苦乃至死亡……但死亡本身并不能带来和平;生命的结果便是生命摆脱了疯癫,但是疯癫仍将超越死亡而取得胜利。”

  在这里,我将“疯癫”理解为理智的反面,即缺乏理智的状态,也就是我所说的脆弱。在《奥赛罗》中,奥赛罗理智的缺失最终导致了苔丝迪梦娜之死和基督教道德的失败,虽然奥赛罗也因此饮恨自杀,但一切仍然无法挽回,疯癫最终取得了胜利。

  奥赛罗这个角色极易引起读者的共鸣。莎士比亚的作品常常会关注那些被污名化的少数族裔,例如在《威尼斯商人》中,夏洛克虽然被塑造为一个典型的犹太守财奴形象,但他的那一段独白却在几百年后让文化背景完全不同的读者读出了作者对犹太人深刻的同情,而这在文学史上可以说是前所未有的:

  Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not

  a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections,

  assions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same

  weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the

  ame means, warmed and cooled by the same winter

  And summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we

  ot bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you

  oison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall

  而奥赛罗这个角色也是如此。从一开始被鄙夷、被误会而被迫当众解释自己与恋人相爱的故事,到之后即使凭借着自身的骁勇善战当上将领,也仍然时时因为自己的黑人身份而被孤立,并因此而不断地自我怀疑,这种悲剧性的自卑之情在寻常人中也并不少见。

  剧中的其他角色也很有意思,比如光彩熠熠(某种意义上来说吧)的伊阿古和当面一套背后一套的的Cassio。有的评论赞赏Iago的勇气和果断,认为他是被命运耽误的天才;有的人则认为Iago只是纯粹的邪恶的化身,说实话,我觉得都有道理。

  《Othello》读后感(三):埃古只是纯粹的邪恶化身而已

  有关奥赛罗的话题,讨论的最多的就是埃古的动机。到底他因为没能得到提拔,被不公正的对待了寻求公正;还是因为有传闻说奥赛罗睡了他老婆;或是说他自己本身对奥赛罗的老婆有隐恋;要么说是根据他对女人这个整体的那段:“女人白天起来就是休息的,而晚上上了床后就是工作的时间。”的评价推断出来他是同性恋所以他看到奥赛罗结婚了,嫉妒得不行;再或者是因为土耳其人的船沉了,作为一个训练了很久的战士突然无事可做了空虚所致;或者是人种宗教方面的原因,因为奥赛罗是黑人看他不爽一类。以上种种可能以及未列举出来的种种可能的问题是,都不能很好的解释他的所作所为,也就是说动机不足。

  其实很有可能埃古本身就是邪恶的化身,他以作邪恶的事情为乐,我觉得这样能很好的解释一切。英语的哥特小说虽然要到18世纪才出现,但是哈姆雷特不也被认为是有点浪漫主义时期出现的拜伦式主人公的雏形么。埃古可能就是邪恶的化身,而剧本其实也和哥特式小说一样有一个测试人类在极端的心理条件下会做出的举动的实验。当然另外一个可能就是:奥赛罗本身是黑人,本身在欧洲白人世界里不太容易被接受,所以他老丈人才说他像魔鬼一样,但实际上是非常人性化的人。就好比莫比迪克里的那个长矛手(中文是不是翻译成蛐蛐还是别的什么的我不清楚),表面上看浑身画满图腾,信奉邪教,但却是主人公最好的朋友,一直照顾着他,对他友善的很。而埃古作为一个有很好的名声的白人士兵,有着诚实的埃古的称号,这里却是完全成对比式的内心里是纯粹的非人性的邪恶。也许莎士比亚就是这样设计的,一对完全的对比。记得measure for measure里面莎士比亚提出对于nature noble man的概念。也是通过对比来显现出来的。这里不得不再说莎士比亚的卓越之处了,直到19实际浪漫主义中后期,才有人敢站出来说些批判封建传承制度的内容。比如Thomas pane对Edmond Bruke的文章的回应里提到“神圣的血统传承以及骑士道精神这些完全没有意义的东西已经过时了。”虽然莎士比亚还是给自己父亲买了个爵位,所以自己也能得以传到爵位,但是能在那个时候质疑因为血缘关系而获得尊贵的称号的制度确实不容易。类似的这里通过一个非常人性的黑人和一个非常恶魔的白人的对比,也可以理解是对于人的种族歧视的一种质疑。当然这种分析可能也会让人觉得牵强了点。

  几个简单的证据有:第一章的第三幕偏后的地方埃古和Rod说:就让我们一起对他复仇吧!如果你能给他戴绿帽子,对你来说是乐事,对我来说是游戏。复仇等于埃古的游戏,是因为他享受这种恶事所带给他的愉悦。在将近最后的地方,第五章第二幕,奥赛罗叫埃古为恶魔,并且再刺伤他之前还说:"看看你到底是不是恶魔,如果是的话我应该是杀不死你的。"结果埃古回答他说:“我在流血,大哥,可是我没死啊”这种嘲讽本身也是将自己和奥赛罗提到的恶魔进行比较。还有一些时间关系就不列举了。

  总之这个剧还是很好玩的,读起来很容易,也短,相对李尔王和哈姆雷特真是顺畅很多。

  第一次补充内容:

  刚才又读了一次,觉得很重要的一个证据还是提一下的好。在第一章三幕的时候埃古与Rod的对白,本人拙劣地翻译下:

  ROD:

  What should I do? I confess it is my shame to be so fond, but it is not in my virtue to amend it.

  我该怎么做?我承认我为我的疯狂的爱感到羞耻,但是我的道德贞操不能够拯救我。

  IAGO:

  Virtue? a fig! 'Tis in ourselves that we are thus or thus. Our bodies are gardens, to the which our wills are gardeners; so that if we will plant nettles or sow lettuce, set hyssop and weed up thyme, supply it with one gender of herbs or distract it with many, either to have it sterile with idleness or manured with industry, why, the power and corrigible authority of this lies in our wills. If the beam of our lives had not one scale of reason to poise another of sensuality, the blood and baseness of our natures would conduct us to most preposterous conclusions; but we have reason to cool our raging motions, our carnal stings, our

  unbitted lusts, whereof I take this that you call love to be a sect or scion.

  埃古:

  品德?少扯淡了!这全看我们自己,我们觉得自己是怎么样的我们就是怎么样的。我们的身体是一个花园的话,我们的意愿就是花园里的园丁,那么我们是种些荨麻呢还是莴苣;我们可以种上牛膝草,挖出百里香;我们可以只种一种植物或者是种上很多种;我们可以懒惰而让它荒芜掉,也可以辛勤耕作。为什么?因为在这个花园里面,想怎么做,以及做这些都是完全由我们的意愿决定的。如果我们的生活中没有一定的理智去克制淫欲的话,我们人性中的热情和卑贱会引导我们走向可怕的结果,但是我们有理智来冷却我们狂怒的动机,淫欲的驱使,以及脱缰的欲望。在我看来,我认为你所谓的爱情实际就是欲望的一种而已。

  Rod:

  It cannot be.

  Rod:

  我不信你说的。

  Iago:

  It is merely a lust of the blood and a permission of the will. Come, be a man. Drown theyself? Drown cats and blind puppies. I have professed me thy friend and I confess me knit to thy deserving with cables of perdurable toughness: I could never better stead thee than now. Put money in thy purse: ...If thou wilt needs damn thyself, do it a more delicate way than drowning. Make all the money thou canst. If sanctimony and a frail vow betwixt an erring barbarian and supersubtle venetian be not too hard for my wits and all the tribe of hell, thou shalt enjoy her. Therefore make money. Apox of drowning thyself! It is clean out of the way; seek thou rather to be hanged in compassing thy joy than to be drowned and go without her.

  埃古:

  爱情只不过是热情的欲望,你的意愿允许了这种欲望的存在。快点,像个男人一样。淹死你自己?只有猫或者狗瞎了才会淹死自己。我生称我是你的朋友,我们的友谊是精密编织的牢不可摧的;在此时此刻,我是你最好的朋友。卖掉你的家产换成钱:...(其间省略)如果你这么想死的话,有比淹死自己更好的方法。所以去尽量多弄些钱来。如果那个被误导的野蛮人与那过分可爱的威尼斯女人之间的人圣洁但是脆弱的誓言对于我的智慧以及地狱里邪恶的兄弟们来说不那么难打破的话,你就能享受他的老婆。所以去尽量多弄些钱来。淹死自己而去往地狱?完全没有意义!如果你对死亡已经无所惧了,与其淹死自己不能得到她,还不如在预谋和尝试如何得到她的过程中死去。

  这一段内容埃古告诉了我们他的观念。他觉得人的意愿决定了人的所作所为,而人类的意愿的本质在他看来都是欲望。在他说服Rod去弄钱的最后我们感觉到埃古做出他的所作所为的真正原因是,他觉得人可以做坏事,并且如果你不怕死亡的话,与其用理性压抑着自己的欲望痛苦的生活或者自寻短见的话,还不如尝试去满足自己的欲望。他的邪恶的本质就是,他认为人类是可以做坏事的,并且他选择了做坏事,并且连死亡也不惧怕。剧中他给出种种原因,比如寻没得到自己应该有的地位,或者说是自己被人戴了绿帽子之类都让人觉得不够充足的原因,因为这些都是借口,或者说是在他决定了大方向之后一些无关紧要的标示。就好比一辆车本来就是要驶向地狱的,路上他突然想起来说给自己车上挂上个我的车驶往罪恶的标牌。

  关于奥赛罗本身也有个有趣的地方,奥赛罗失手杀死了自己的妻子,在他最后自杀的时候他没有说是自己自杀谢罪,而是类似于:我为你报仇了,我将杀死杀死你的凶手——我自己。想到<哈姆雷特>,哈姆雷特的叔叔谋杀了他父亲,哈姆雷特如果杀他的话自己也就罪恶了,但是杀他的话却又是似乎理所应当的,杀与不杀是个问题。他最后的自杀,是罪恶也是赎罪,结果会是怎么样,想想也很有趣。

  亚里士多德说悲剧是:角色自己的特点导致了自己不可避免的悲剧的下场。比如俄狄浦斯的臭脾气,李尔王对于爱的误解,茱莉亚凯撒的野心,安东尼的欲望,以及哈姆雷特对于公正的追求(这是我理解的哈姆雷特)。要说奥赛罗的悲剧的原因的话,却又不那么好说,可以是他对于埃古的信任,但是这种信任是人都无法逃过的,那样的话就没有其的特别之处了。我想大约还是他的背景,他——一个战士,张飞一样的野蛮人,即便有一点智慧,也很难在上层贵族的交流圈里如鱼得水,大多数时候他不知道该怎么面对事情,不懂得规则,最后只能听信身边的人,结果导致自己被算计。想想奥赛罗泡马子的方式也真是独特,他应该不懂浪漫之事,不知道怎么讨好女生,约会,或者甜言蜜语也不会说,居然就考跟别人说自己打仗的经历,被一个女人听到了,结果被人爱上了。真叫我不置可否,要是我也能什么都不做,就和别人吹牛灌水,就有漂亮的女生主动找我该有...以下不敢说了。

  《Othello》读后感(四):Love and Crimes

  Othello loves Desdemona with his entire heart. Meanwhile, Desdemona also devotes herself to Othello. It seems that they will lead a life full of happiness and romance. Unfortunately, their story ends tragically with regret because of the excessive love. Othello’s deep love makes Othello become paranoid and even be overwhelmed by ignorant jealousy. Also, Desdemona loves Othello so deeply that she is always obedient to Othello, which stimulates the occurring of the tragedy.

  At the beginning, Othello and Desdemona fall in love with each other because of the unique experience shared by Othello. Desdemona sympathizes his miserable experience and appreciates the braveness of Othello. She adores Othello deeply and regards him as her lord. Meanwhile, Othello is well disposed towards Desdemona because she listens to his experience attentively. He is moved that Desdemona understands and appreciates him. Also, because of Desdemona’s purity and dignity, Othello loses his heart to Desdemona. Their love is not based on the material level such as appearance or social status, but on the communication between their souls. However, such a fragrant love is too excessive that it leads to detriments.

  Othello regards Desdemona as his whole world, so that he becomes paranoid and is extremely anxious about the leaving of Desdemona. During Othello’s early life, he struggles with lots of difficulties and pursues any fragrant things in the world. When he meets with Desdemona, he realizes that Desdemona is such a pretty girl who understands him and has a beautiful soul. She cares never about Othello’s black skin, old age and other outside conditions but his intelligence and graveness. Desdemona loves him and even follows him by betraying his lovely father. Othello is moved and devotes himself to Desdemona. He shares all his life with her and tries to do everything she wants. Just as Iago says, “Othello’s soul is so enfettered to her love, which she may make, unmake, do what she list, even as her appetite shall play the god”.

  Othello loves Desdemona so deeply, as he says, “When I love thee not, chaos is come again.” Therefore, when he is told by Iago the abnormal relationship between Desdemona and Iago, although he is unwilling to believe that Desdemona betrays him, he asks Iago to tell Emilia to “watch” Desdemona. He does not allow the forsaking of Desdemona and does not trust in Desdemona totally, because once Desdemona forsakes him, his entire world will collapse. If he loses Desdemona, what he loses is not only a wife, the one he shares his life with, but also his faith. As a result, he becomes more paranoid. He just seeks proofs to support the point of view that Desdemona betrays him and confirm his suspicion again and again. He ignores the loyalty and kindness of Desdemona and discounts the exhortation given by Emilia. He is so anxiety about the loss of Desdemona. When he “confirms” his perspectives, he is extremely painful and says, “Othello’s occupation’s gone”.

  The deep love of Othello also makes Othello be unconfident of him and turns to be jealous. As a Moor with black skin, Othello is not treated as noble as the natives. It is hard for him to get respects from the natives. However, by going through lots of cruel wars and plenty of dangerous adventures in his youth, Othello accumulates his excellent reputation, turns to be eloquent and powerful. When others criticize that he must has used some powerful drug or magic potion on Desdemona to stimulate such a pure and noble girl with proper upbringing to marry him, Othello is so confident and says, “I fetch my life and being from men of royal siege, and my demerits may speak unbonneted to as proud a fortune.” He is proud of his excellent reputation, elevated status and his nice personality.

  However, because of the dignity of Desdemona and his deep love, he doubts himself. When he was told his Desdemona has an affair with Cassio, he says, “Haply, for I am black, and have not those soft parts of conversation that chamberers have, or for I am declined into the vale of years.” He feels inferior in his skin color and age. He worries that he and Desdemona are not a good match for each other because of his black skin. Meanwhile, the appearance of Cassio, such a smooth talker and good-looking guy with fine manner, makes Othello to suspect himself more and then turn to be jealous. Therefore, Othello just follows Iago’s instigation and does not analyze information. For instance, Iago tricks Othello that the handkerchief gifted by Othello has been given to Cassio by Desdemona, and Othello believes Iago’s tricks. Actually, if Othello could consider things carefully, he will notice that the handkerchief used by Iago as a “proof” of proving the betraying of Desdemona is actually the one he dropped on the floor. Unfortunately, Othello just adheres to his ignorant jealousy and concludes impulsively that Desdemona betrays him.

  The detrimental ending is caused by not only Othello, but also Desdemona. Desdemona is always obedient to Othello because of her deep love to Othello. She gives up her strength to fight for herself and causes the lack of in-depth exchange of views between her and Othello. When Othello treats her badly by using hurtful words such as “whore” and even strikes her, she just tolerates, although she is hurt deeply and does not think she should endure this kinds of insult, just as she says, “his unkindness may defeat my life, but never taint my love. I cannot say ‘whore,’ it does abhor me now I speak the word”. She never takes effective actions to fight for herself and solves the problems, “Tis meet I should be used so, very meet. How have I been behaved that he might stick the small’st opinion on my least misuse?” She just forgives and forbears the insults of Othello again and again. Desdemona is so enslaved by love and lost herself. Therefore, even when Desdemona realizes that Othello intends to kill her, she still asks Emilia to leave them alone and do not ask for help effectively. “Give me my nightly wearing, and adieu. We must not now displease him”, she just obeys Othello’s intentions and does not matter whether they are right or not, which makes herself suffered hurts from Othello and even killed by Othello.

  ecause of the deep love between Othello and Desdemona, the surmise of betraying by Desdemona makes Othello crazy and Othello implements his “revenge” to Desdemona and Cassio. Othello kills Desdemona impulsively. When the truth is exposed, it is so late for Othello to realize his fault. Othello is extremely painful. He loses his reputation and is charged with killing his own wife. Furthermore, his lovely wife Desdemona will never wake up. Othello kills himself at last for his hopelessness, for his confession and for his love.

  In conclusions, the deep love between Desdemona and Othello leads to detriments. Othello is anxious about the loss of Desdemona, so he becomes paranoid, unconfident and even jealous. Meanwhile, Desdemona is so recreant to obey the intentions of Othello and fails to protect herself from harm. As a result, the romantic love between Othello and Desdemona ends in tragedy. As a couple, if they could communicate with each other more deeply and trust each other, Desdemona and Othello can avoid many troubles. If Othello could treat the sanders to Desdemona imperturbably and Desdemona could fight for herself, no matter the instigation is, they will lead a happy life.
